OH so HOT!!
Yesterday, the day began in Lawrence, KS. We got a later start than expected because someone decided to help themselves to a very important part on Monique's luggage rack. After some genius engineering, we were off to see central and western Kansas. The moment we hit the road, we had the idea we were in for a hot one. And I mean hot. The first part of the day we couldn't even find a cloud to ride behind or anything else to give us some relief from the blazing sun. But while crossing through one small town in central Kansas we stumbled upon a bank that informed us the temperature was 104. Shortly after this rude relization, we found out that a storm was a brewing about an hour west of us. But hey we figured some cold water could only feel good at this point. We made it to Scott City and the storm was only miles from us. There were huge lightning bolts and the rain look torential. So we decided to hear south about 30 miles or so to where the sun was shining. At around 7 or so, we pulled into Garden City, KS after narrowly missing a deer 5 miles outside of town. This crazy bugger just appeared out of thin air it seemed. But fortunaltly we all managed to dodge the deer and make it to the AmericInn. After some sweet talking and a military ID, we ended up with a great rate for 2 queen beds and we even had a 10% discount at the applebee's next door. Shortly after we checked in, applebee's was calling our name so we headed over there. And much to Matt's and my amazement, we stumbled into a plethora of young females. Needless to say our neck's were sore leaving applebee's after all the staring and the food was excellent as well. Ah now it was time for some R & R and after some world cup highlights from day 1, we laid our heads down on the comfy and very firm mattresses. I say firm because the crazy bed almost threw me off when I tried to jump on it with my back down and it sent me flying between the wall and the bed. YES, tomorrow we hit the ROCKIES!
